In any activity I’ve done, the aim of practice has always been to move faster, longer, higher, further, harder, stronger … you get the idea.
By contrast, the most common feedback on the mat is do less. The tenet less is more prevails. Let the breath do the work, relax, let it happen, you’re doing too much, just think it and let the body follow – they are all frequent comments, and many similar.
Perhaps this makes aikido the perfect couch potato activity?
